traits: likes: Gideon Prewett. Quidditch, Chess, Arithmancy, cards- sometimes, strategy, staying up late, sleeping in, that one chair in the corner of Ravenclaw common room, when people say she looks nothing like John, watching John squirm, history, war, snogging. dislikes: Answering questions in class, having much attention drawn to her (other than when Quidditch is involved, that’s completely different), muggles, muggleborns, muggle studies, taking baths (showers plz), trying new foods, being compared to John hobbies: -Gideon Prewett. Sure they are best friends but she has being in love with him down to a science. She makes sure to know exactly what he likes, doesn’t like, wants to do with his life, and where he is almost any time of the day. If you need to find him (or Fabian who is usually in tow) Jane is your girl. -Annoying John. She can’t stand how uptight he is (or more so how smart he is) and spends a focused part of her day on making sure he’s squirming before she’s happy. -Anything and everything that will set her apart from her brother or possibly upset him. This includes drinking, gambling, and on occasion smoking. plans for the future: As tempted as she’d be to say “whatever Gideon does” she’s not quite that bad. If Jane had her way Deon would open his eyes, notice that, yes, in fact, she is a girl and that she’s everything he’s ever wanted. Of course this would be followed by plenty of snogging, a marriage proposal, and 2.5 kids and a white pickett fence. Unfortunately, she’s had to make alternative plans due to the thickness of Gid’s skull and therefore has intentions of possibly traveling out of Hogwarts but more likely than not, settling down in the Ministry. She’s interested in the Department of International Magical Cooperation but isn’t sure if she’s really got the right connections for a job like that. subjects studied & grades earned in school:

general personality: Jane unfortunately lacks self-confidence. This likely stems from a number of things, being a teenager topping that list, as well as struggling to indentify herself as an individual from her brother her whole life, and being in love with a guy who thinks of you as just a friend. Oh and then there are her grades, her very much less-than-genius-level grades (compared to her brother who never seems to fail at anything and the rest of the Ravenclaw house.) Despite her lack of confidence Jane doesn’t walk around with a rain cloud over her head. In fact, she’s typically a fairly happy person to be around.
Although she’s quiet when by herself, when around a group of friends, she’s lively and out going and although she might not always cook up the latest scheme, she’s almost always right there to follow through with it. She doesn’t crave adventure per say but she is interested in making sure no one knows just how unconfident she is. She learned early on the confidence and happiness are attractive qualities and tries to keep those at the forefront.
Jane does her best to be a good friend and is certainly more empathetic than most in her house. She tries to make sure that if someone is down, then she’s there to ask what’s wrong and maybe even help. She knows her strength isn’t in tutoring her fellow housemates so she tries to do what she can to be needed. She’s a good listener and gives hugs when needed.
There are those moments when she’s alone (or thinks she’s alone) in the corner of the common room or her dorm room where one might glimpse a little of what goes on behind the happy, friendly, adventurous girl. Jane knows that compared to other Ravenclaws she’s not very smart and she often feels fairly lost. When she’s alone she’s quiet, withdrawn, and thoughtful. Sometimes you might catch her looking longingly at Gideon even.
Although she’s head over heels in love with Gideon and has been for years, she makes it a point not to force herself on him. In fact, she tries to just be a friend (and lately they’ve been growing a lot closer, a thought that makes her heart leap) and show that she’s interested in the same things he is. Of course, some of those things she’s really not very good at but if it gets him to open his eyes then it’s totally worth it, right?
Jane’s strengths may not lie within the bounds of a books and she may not see it- but she has earned her Ravenclaw stripes through strategy. She has an uncanning ability to see games play out and to calculate odds easily. It has made her good at games like chess and poker and has given her a particular interest in war and history. She’s hoping for the captaincy of Ravenclaw’s team this year to put it to good use too!
Lastly, Jane is a blood-purist. She isn’t particularly passionate about her views but they are deep-seeded and not going anywhere soon. She sees the inclusion of muggles in the wizarding world as strategically unsound and believes it will ultimately lead to the disintegration of their culture and perhaps of magical ability in general. She thinks it is foolish to ignore history and the countless times muggles have lashed out against the wizarding world, depleting their numbers to what they are today. Jane knows, however, that these are touchy times and she’s not outspoken about her beliefs. If it came down to it and she was questioned bluntly, she’d tell, but otherwise mums the word. Of course, her actions could be seen if you paid close enough attention, she isn’t quiet as warm to the muggleborns and when muggle culture comes up, she goes quiet and fades to the background of the discussion.

notable family members & relationships with them: Sarah Davies (mother): Jane loves her mother, of course, but she can’t help but get frustrated when she calls she and John things like “the twins” as if they were one entity and she still holds a bit of resentment from being dressed the same as her brother when they were younger. The coordinating robes and pjs they get every Christmas? Not on. Robert Davies (father): Robert works in the Department of Magical Transportation and is a fairly reserved, typical, Welsh wizard. He’s a man of few words and rarely shows his affection. Despite this, Jane has never felt unloved, she just accepts that that is who her father is. Carol Davies (sister, 38): Carol tried to bond with the twins when they were young but being a Gryffindor and a free spirit with siblings that were fairly reserved in such things just didn’t work out too well. She keeps in touch but she’s commented time and time again that she doesn’t “get” them. She’s one of the few people who still think Jane and John have some other-worldly twin-connection. John Davies (twin): Jane and John have never been as alike as most people assume twins should be. Jane has been her own independent person since birth and has spent just as long proving as much. She loves her brother, sure, but she doesn’t get his addiction to studying and she worries about his social skills. Pushing him until he’s sputtering, blushing, or squirming is one of her favorite past times. marital status: single social status: firmly middle class general history: By the time the twins were born, Carol was already out of the house. They were, clearly, an accident. It was never anything that bothered Jane, of course. It wasn’t as though they weren’t loved or cared for. In fact, Jane has come to realize that the age of their parents when they were born has had some distinct benefits. They had already gone through everything with Carol already and although there being two was a challenge, they knew what the important things to focus on were and what things were less dire.
Since birth Sarah had taken to dressing Jane and John in outfits that coordinated. She used to coo over how cute they were and how alike they were, something Jane just never saw. She didn’t like being tied to her brother in such a way and even less so did she like being lumped together with any one person. She began doing things to make herself separate from her twin at a very young age. As she grew she began to resent the fact that she even had a twin. It became more and more apparent (whether by design or nature) that they were two very different people and yet she was always lumped together with him.
At Hogwarts Jane figured she’d finally found her chance to get away from him and be her own person. She was the first to sort and was put into Ravenclaw after some deliberation (she didn’t argue the hat one way or another, he was a tradition and an important one at that) and John was next. The hat was hardly on his head for a moment before it screamed out Ravenclaw as well. Jane’s animosity for the enchanted head gear started there.
As it turned out, John seemed to fit into Ravenclaw pretty well. Despite the fact that she thought of it as “her” house because she’d gotten there first, it was quickly becoming clear that it was actually his house, the one he was always intended for. Jane didn’t have the same addiction to reading that others did, nor did she see much need to experiment with spells, or try to solve the worlds problems around the common room fire. As classes picked up she realized that in fact, compared to her housemates, she was actually kind of stupid. It was the sort of thing that gripped her heart with fear. Had she been missorted? What if the others figured it out? She’d be an outcast for the rest of her life!
It was that first year, when she was gripped with terror and frustration and most of all envy of her brother, that Gideon Prewett reached out to her. He had a camera and for some reason or another pointed it at her. She was surprised and intrigued. They struck up a casual friendship and soon she got to know his twin brother too. Gideon and Fabian were the kind of twins that made Jane want to puke, to be honest. Where they looked and acted like carbon copies of each other, Jane and John barely looked alike at all and could hardly be more different. The Prewett’s were the kind of boys who gave twins a bad name. (Through the years she has actually come to admire and perhaps even envy their relationship though, knowing she and John will never be like that.)
However, Gideon was the first person to really make an effort, though shakey, with Jane and she figured he might be her only chance to have a friend. She began to devote herself to being the coolest friend she could to him and soon got the idea that if she were warm and friendly with others, maybe they wouldn’t notice, or care, about her less-than-stellar study habits. Soon she fairly close friends with both Gideon and Fabian, or at least as close as you can be knowing you’ll always come in second place. She made a point to take interest in the things they were interested in and try to keep up with their antics in general.
Although most of what Jane did with her free time was guided by whatever Gideon and Fabian did, Quidditch was not one of those things. She isn’t exactly a Quidditch nut, but it’s certainly a passion of hers. She went out for the team her second year and was amazed to find herself with a position as Chaser. Although Gideon and Fabian were never much interested in the sport (aside from betting on it, and woe to them that bet against her) she stuck with it and has found it to be a bit of her niche.
Her crush on Gideon began to develop around fourth year, though she was careful to keep it secret. The last thing she wanted was for he or Fabian to find out and for things to get weird- or worse, for them to tease her. She began doing what she could to catch his eye as more than just a friend, but has found her efforts mostly useless. She’s dated a few different guys, but when she holds them up to her idealized vision of her best friend, they fall fairly short and her relationships end up failing because of it.
Her relationship with John remains to be a shakey one at best. Although he’s her brother and deep down she does love him, she is actually a bit embarrassed by him in some ways. When they were first years his academic pursuits seemed normal. Now that they’ve grown older and his focus on studies has gotten to a nearly obsessive level and it’s become clear that he just doesn’t relate to people quite the same, she’s a bit put off. She knows she could never compete with his intelligence and he’ll always be the ‘smart twin’ but even the fact that he rarely (if ever?) dates bothers her. To be honest, she’s starting to wonder if he’s gay.
